Effective Date: April 1, 2010
Low Cost, High Quality Video Capture

"ADVCmini" is a USB video recording device for a Mac. This product allows consumers and prosumers to easily and reliably record high-quality video from VHS tapes, digital camcorders, and similar sources to their Mac computer for viewing, editing and sharing video on an iPhone, iPod, DVD and YouTube.

Like other products in the ADVC product family, the ADVCmini provides video capture of analog sources into a digital format. While other products in this series use the IEEE1394 (FireWire) interface, the ADVCmini connects via USB. Although IEEE1394 interfaces continue to be available, the USB interface is becoming more prevalent on today’s systems. ADVCmini is positioned to cover this market.

The ADVCmini works with Mac-based systems. This product is designed to target the consumer market. The workflow, software GUI and feature set are designed to be easy to use for the home users, but with the capability to record high quality video. Recorded files are compatible with QuickTime video. Video files captured by ADVCmini can be managed by iTunes to transfer videos to iPod, iPhone and Apple TV. Or customer can edit videos with iMovie and upload them directly to YouTube from iMovie.

Also, recorded video can be edited with Final Cut Pro. So, this product can also work as SD video capture for the prosumer editing market.

Most video capture/record products in this price range have only 2D filtering capability when performing analog to digital conversion. The ADVCmini has composite analog to digital conversion with 3D Y/C separation resulting in significantly higher quality in captured video.

Difference between 2D only product and “ADVCmini”:
2D only product. (Most products in this category do not have support “3D Y/C” separation resulting in inferior capture quality.

Rainbow noise as shown above will appear when recording video from composite video sources.
This is due to the specification of composite video signals, and the limitation of signal separation for Y and C.

ADVCmini (with 3D Y/C separation.)
No rainbow noise. 3D Y/C separation is an approach to separate composite signal to Y and C to significantly improve video quality.
